Once again Tom Brown, Race Committee PRO, June Pinkham, and the volunteers of the Great Bay Yacht Club walked the Club’s talk of supporting sailing by hosting the Fall edition of the GBYC Laser regatta.
The day did not start out with much of a promise in the breeze department as 7 local Laser sailors were joined by Hank Thorburn from Harpswell, Maine when rigging their boats at Hilton Park in Dover Point in a very light northerly breeze. Just as Tom and June on Chumly had set up the course, the sea breeze worked its way up the mighty Piscataqua River and the other GBYC volunteers rallied their boats to the task of course change.
A renewed Laser sailor (Brad Holt from Rye NH) dusted off his 30 year old Laser handling and sailing cobwebs of a nearly forgotten era as we teamed up to rig his 1979 baby blue hull just in time to enter the fray. Brad’s boat may be heavy and his sail old but he showed his potential as a force to be reckoned with by landing 5th place.
To prove the value of his Olympic Edition Laser that is for sale, Steve Pollack added to his boat’s pedigree; 1st place honors.
The very popular frostbiting season with Lasers will be starting in Portland, Marblehead, Newport and Westport. Contact Stephen Kosacz, PSA Laser Fleet Captain for info.
